Big Four make a comeback in thought leadership
The large audit firms were the first to compete with McKinsey and its peers for a lucrative slice of the consulting market back in the 60’s. They have since undergone enormous change due to consolidation and regulation, resulting in a smaller number of big firms and the sale of some consulting operations. In the last couple of years three of the Big Four firms have rebuilt their consulting practices and this group is once again a force to be reckoned with, as evidenced in their recent performance in thought leadership.

Women step off the corporate ladder
In 2002, some 38% of senior manager level posts in the FTSE 350 were occupied by women, but this has now sunk to just 22%. The news may come as a surprise to many companies that have introduced flexible working arrangements and appointed heads of diversity in an attempt address equal opportunities in the workplace and retain talent.

With the consultancy market booming again, the competitive battle between the firms has shifted to the recruitment market, with staff shortages now the number one constraint on sector growth. “The “war for talent” has broken out again as firms vie with each other to recruit top candidates so as to maintain competitive edge and keep up with client demand.

Global employment outlook mixed, survey finds
Employers in Germany, Europe's largest economy, are planning to accelerate hiring in the second quarter, indicating a continuance in the recovery of this key labour market. Meanwhile, job prospects in India and the US are expected to ease in the next three months, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey released by Manpower Inc.
