Consulting industry experiencing strong growth
The UK consulting industry is once again enjoying double-digit growth rates, according to the latest official figures. Following several years in which public sector spending kept consulting afloat, it is now very much private sector demand that is fuelling its continued expansion.

After a slow start to the new millennium the consultancy industry is now very much back on the growth track. Fiona Czerniawska, Director of the Management Consultancies Association Think Tank, says that the Association’s members grew revenues by 23% in 2005, and that level of growth is set to continue.

Capco’s ready for growth, on its own unique terms
Our management consultancy columnist, Mick James, this week talks to Steve Webb, head of Capco in the UK, about the firm's new growth prospects.

Firms like Capco have blossomed as today’s more sophisticated clients have shown their willingness to look beyond the “usual suspects” in search of the perfect firm in terms of expertise and experience. But it’s still all too easy for a large consultancy to raise a few polite doubts about a smaller rival’s balance sheet, and the ability to offer (or at least promise) a seamless integration between consultancy and implementation.

Thought Leadership
Open season for open source?
Since its earliest days, the open source software movement has been the subject of passionate debate and the kind of invective normally associated with superpower conflicts or religious warfare. Supporters cite great benefits and claim attacks on open source constitute an attack on civil liberties whilst detractors denounce this as nothing more than the opposition’s propaganda. In this article Methods Consulting attempts to survey the battleground and offer a safe passage through the potential minefield.
(Martin Little - Methods Consulting)
How to get people to do what you want – without telling them what to do
Telling people what to do actually destroys their ability to do it. People enjoy challenges; we enjoy achieving our goals and being proud of what we have done. What we hate is being told what to do. So when we are told what to do we resist, not because we object to what we have been told to do, the resistance occurs because we object to being “told” what to do.
